Dallas-based Brinker International, Inc., one of the most influential, trend-setting, multi-concept operators in the restaurant industry, traces its original roots to 1975. In the following year it was renamed Chili's, Inc. In order to encompass the growing restaurant portfolio, the name was changed in 1991 to Brinker International, Inc. Chili's first started as a neighborhood-style restaurant that served quality homemade food in a casual atmosphere. Sales grew quickly and additional restaurants flourished. In 1983, Chili's, Inc. attracted the attention of Norman Brinker, one of the restaurant industry's preeminent leaders, who bought the company and took it public that same year.
The company now has over 1,700 restaurants which include Chili's Grill & Bar, Chili's Too,
Romano's Macaroni Grill, On the Border Mexican Grill & Cantina, and Maggiano's Little Italy.
Brinker has received numerous awards and is widely recognized as one of the best managed, most innovative and progressive companies in the restaurant industry.
For the past five years, Forbes magazine has listed Brinker International, Inc. in their annual list of the "400 Best Companies in America." In 2004, Fortune magazine recognized Brinker as a Fortune 500 company.
From 1999 to 2003, Romano's Macaroni Grill won the Dinner House Category in the Restaurant & Institutions annual Choice in Chains Award. And Maggiano's Little Italy is a past "Hot Concept of the Year" winner by Nation's Restaurant News.
