Mattel Donates $250,000 and One Million Toys to Tsunami Relief Efforts

Employees Through Mattel Matching Funds Donate An Additional $200,000

In response to the recent tsunami devastation in South Asia, Mattel donated $250,000 to the Save the Children Asia Earthquake/Tidal Wave Relief Fund. In addition, more than 200 employees have participated in the Mattel Children's Foundation's global matching gifts program for tsunami relief, donating more than $200,000 to date.

The Save the Children Asia Earthquake/Tidal Wave Relief Fund will support the delivery of food, water, temporary shelter materials and non-food relief, such as clothing, to children and families in affected coastal communities. Save the Children also will be providing medical care, especially for children who are at grave risk of contracting debilitating, yet preventable, diseases. More about the fund can be found at: http://www.savethechildren.org

Mattel has also contributed one million toys to the tsunami relief effort. Amongst these are more than 30,000 Hot Wheels made specifically for tsunami victims manufactured in local Mattel-owned plants in Malaysia and Indonesia and donated to Save the Children relief centers.

Mattel employees around the world have contributed to the relief effort through monetary donations made more powerful through the Mattel Children's Foundation matching program which matches dollar-for-dollar gifts of $25 up to $5,000 made to qualifying non-profit organizations.

Hundreds of employees at Mattel's local facilities in Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia, as well as marketing offices in India, have also participated in site-specific matching grants programs throughout our Asia locations and are coordinating local relief efforts to support their communities, including the Red Cross, Red Crescent and Times of India Group Relief Fund.
